“Special Orders” gets a new direction

We will be open this week from Thursday to Saturday, June 18 to 20th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..

As we continue to move towards a fuller week, we are trimming back the need to request a Special Order to only requests for the larger bread orders.

We are now open to regular walk-in purchasing so we are preparing a wider range of pastries and other treats on a daily basis. This removes the need to pre-order cupcakes or lemon bars, etc. and reduces the advance work required to prep all these requests. It also greatly expands available treats for you when you do come in.

That leaves us with only bread pre-orders to attend to and specifically, larger bread orders that would clear out the normal number of loaves rather quickly.

To that end, we will continue to use the Special Orders set up but limit this simply to those who require larger quantities of bread. Anyone who wished to grab a loaf or two of any of the regular loaves can pop in during the weekdays and pick up what they’d like that day.

Those who require quantities of 3+ loaves can pre-order to make sure we have their loaves on hand when they come in for pick-up on Saturday. Then it’s a simple matter of telling the cashier that you have a bread order waiting and, unless you happen to also want to grab a Nanaimo Bar, Fudge Brownie or other pastry, you can be in and out quickly and enjoy the remainder of your day.

PAYMENT:
For the foreseeable future, we will continue to accept debit or credit card payments, including Tap option. Aside from actual cards, we also accept Apple Pay and other electronic payment methods, including pre-payment by INTERAC e-Transfer for larger orders; contact SpecialOrders@HearthstoneBakery.ca and ask for details.
We do not take cash payments.

As has been the case previously, Sourdough bread should be ordered by
5 PM Wednesdays so that we can have the correct amount of starter going in time for Saturday’s bake.
All other bread (7-grain, Peasant White, Cheese or Cheese/Jalapeno, etc.) can be ordered up to 5 PM on Thursday.
Please be sure to check this page for an up-to-date list of what loaves are available for pick-up on that Saturday.

Pickups can then be at any time you wish on Saturday between 11 am and 4 pm. as there are no time slots required.

Again, this is for larger orders of 3+ loaves that would otherwise use up the “normal” amount of loaves we would bake for typical walk-in customers.

• 7-Grain whole grain
• Peasant White
• Cheddar
• Cheddar with Jalapeño

NEW PROCESS for Special Orders

For Friday June 12th & Saturday June 13th

We are entering into a new phase at Hearthstone as we transform from a Special Orders Only system to mixing both the Special Orders and regular walk-in sales for folks who haven’t pre-ordered.

To that end, we would love to get YOUR orders in so that the main items you want will be put aside for you for whenever you do drop into the shop.

So let’s just jump on the main items we really need to have prepared and bagged ahead of time: the Bread and Sausage Rolls.

The bread lineup for FRIDAY the 12th will be:
Hearthstone’s Classic Sourdough – $5.50
Seeded Sourdough – $6.25
– We will need these loaves ordered by Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. so we can get the starter going in time for Friday sales

Sorry for the short notice! We will make sure to have extra loaves out this day to make up for this.
7-Grain panned – $5.95
Peasant White panned – $5.50

Cheddar panned – $6.25
Cheddar & Jalapeno panned – $6.25
Berlin 90% Rye (600g or 1200g loaves) – $5.50 or $8.95
– These loaves need to be ordered by Wednesday 5 p.m.

Hearthstone’s Classic Sourdough – $5.50
Cranberry Walnut Sourdough – $6.25
– We will need these loaves ordered by Wednesday at 5 p.m. so we can get the starter going in time for Saturday sales.

We will have bread available on the bread shelves but there is a possibility that we will run out before your arrival.

Curry Veg (low numbers available)

Note that the Curry Veg roll is running low so we may not have enough for both days or for pre-orders and walk-ins. We are working on replenishing these next week.
If you want Curry Veg rolls, please pre-order ASAP but even then you may want to add an alternative (Beef or Turkey) in the event we run out.

Pre-order by Wed at 5 p.m. for Friday pick up
and Thur 5 p.m. for Saturday pick up.


PASTRIES: Sweet

We will have available on the counter and in the display case several pastries and treats (various prices) that people have asked for and missed. These will include:

Please see what is available when you arrive. And remember that this is weekend #1 so numbers available may not be ideal as some things need to be made anew.

IF all goes well, we’ll expand to Thursday, Friday and Saturday for next week and pretty soon we will be back to our usual schedule! And the world may look a bit more “normal” by then.

If including Curry Veg rolls, you may want to select an alternative if we run out.
WE WILL UPDATE THIS PAGE in the even the Curry rolls all sell out during Pre-Order.

NOTE: We will NOT be sending out specific pick-up times, only order receipt confirmations as we are merging personal pick up times with walk-in service. We are open from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and you can pick up your order at any point in that time range.

What’s in the future?

If this weekend works well, we will expand our open days and possibly hours until we are back to our regular store schedule.

We will move away from the Special Orders system, although still encouraging people to use if for larger bread orders (3+ of any one type) so that we both have the bread they need and don’t wipe out the available loaves for people coming after them.

It’s a work in progress and, like much over the last few months, it’s learning as we go.

And finally, for this week, I personally want to thank all our amazing customers – that’s YOU! – who have helped us maneuver through the past couple of difficult months with their support and belief in what we produce. It would have been much more difficult to get through to this side of the quarantine without you and your support.

Pickup Orders for June 6, 2020

It’s already June! Good grief, how time flies when you’re… self-quarantining. OK, it may seem like an unending drudge but that should be changing soon. Right?

Hey, welcome back to the Special Orders page, COVID Edition! This week’s selection of treats should tickle a good number of people’s palates!

Let’s have a look, shall we?

Alternate Sourdough

The Special Guest Bread this weekend is going to be the Fig and Walnut Sourdough loaf. Be sure to get the order in for this loaf by 5 P.M. Wednesday (along with the Classic Sourdough) as the sourdough bread does take three full days to prepare.
$6.25 per loaf.

Scones

On the pastry side, we’ll be making SCONES!
The sweet version will be Blueberry while the savoury ones will be Cheddar and Green Onion.
$2.60 each.

Sorry, no bread slicing; they’re too fresh from the oven to pass through the slicer.
NOTE: Sourdough requests must come in before 5 PM Wednesday as this is the latest we can make the right amount of dough for everyone’s orders.

SAVOURY PASTRY

Our popular Sausage Rolls are available as Beef & Pork, Turkey & Chicken or Curry Veg rolls. Get your favourite flavour or a mix of any today!
They are available in packs of 6 for just $22.

SWEET PASTRY

Fudge Brownies
Every weekend, we’re making a batch of fresh-baked, dense brownies with chocolate chips just for you. Made from scratch with cocoa and real butter, these have been a huge hit since the new version came out in March. Try one and see why!

Chocolate-dipped Coconut Macaroons: $2.10 each
A bit more rustic than French Macarons, these tasty treats are made without flour.

Nanaimo Bars $4.20 ea.
Your Classic Nanaimo bar! Or the Peanut Butter variety! Yum!

Lemon Bars: $4.20 ea. (4 left)
Delicious, tart lemon curd, drizzled with white chocolate on a blonde cookie base.
